Virginia Medical Cannabis Certification Questions

Do I need a medical marijuana card in Virginia?
Yes. While registration with the state is no longer required, you still need a written certification from a licensed healthcare provider to legally purchase and use medical cannabis in Virginia.
You’ll need to schedule a telehealth consultation with a licensed practitioner. If you qualify, the provider will issue a written certification, which you can take directly to any licensed dispensary in the state.

Virginia does not have a specific list of qualifying conditions. Certification is based on a provider’s professional medical judgment. Common conditions include:
